Since 1877, St. Mary’s has proudly served Owatonna by offering students an excellent education built on the foundation of faith. We strongly believe St. Mary’s is more than a school; we are a family. Together, we love, learn, give, lead, and pray.
What brought you to St. Mary's? What keeps you at St. Mary's? What impact has your St. Mary's experience had on your life or the life of your family?
What brought us to St Mary’s School and has kept us at St. Mary’s is the Christ-centered environment and the outstanding teachers. We love that our children start and end their school day in prayer, are able to learn and talk about our faith, and celebrate the true meaning of our holidays. When issues arise, they are worked out using our Christian values. In addition, the teachers at St. Mary’s have amazed us by providing such individualized attention. They are attentive to both the academic and social development of our children. Whether our children have needed a bigger challenge or extra help, St. Mary’s teachers have provided what has been needed. The teachers listen and act upon our input as parents, and always welcome us into the classroom. In short, St. Mary’s supports and compliments what we are teaching our children at home.
To me, being a St. Mary’s School student means being able to share my faith. It means having the freedom to pray and build my relationship with God with my friends and family. At St. Mary’s we are all one big family, students grades K-8, parents, and staff. No one is left out or left behind. SMS gives me the opportunity to lead in so many ways, to share my gifts and talents in sports and music, and most importantly serve others. The teachers and staff are incredible and in my opinion the best. Every teacher I’ve had has done a great job teaching me and preparing me for my future. I am getting an amazing education inside and outside of the classroom. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else, St. Mary’s School is home.
|I’m grateful for the opportunity of going to and graduating from St. Mary’s. As I continue to reflect on being an alumni of St. Mary’s, I not only recall the fond memories of classmates, teachers, and events, but I am also beginning to realize how much St. Mary’s has influenced me. It was a place where I encountered the Lord in many different ways as a Catholic school community: in worship at the weekly Wednesday Mass; in formal education with the academic rigor; in service which took place in many forms but always reminded me that it is Lord in the other whom I serve when I serve; in fellowship with my classmates who challenged me to grow in holiness, and in prayer – whether it was all together at the start of the day, at Mass, in Spirit Groups, and especially in Religion class. St. Mary’s will always be a piece of the puzzle that was a part of my past and continues to influence me today.|
