Our 3rd graders let their imaginations shine! They proved some pretty creative inventions can be made from "junk"! And some of the left over items that weren't used for the inventions made some pretty cool junk sculptures. Great job 3rd graders!
We graduate our 8th graders today. It is always hard to say good-bye. It will be fun to see what their future holds. They are certainly ready for their next chapter...as this video shows: https://www.youtube.com/watch… Special thanks to Melanie Burmeister and Stacey Ginskey for the work in putting together this video.
Today we recognized our 5th grade Safety Patrol participants. Thanks so much for keeping our students safe. Your leadership is both important and impressive!
Thank you to the Owatonna Kiwanis Club for recognizing our Citizens of the Year in Grades 2-6. These students were chosen for being responsible, helpful, and respectful. Kiwanis recognizes that good citizens form positive habits and traits in their early life. Congratulations to the following St. Mary's School Citizens of the Year: 2nd grade: Emery Z. & Ben L., 3rd grade: McKenna E. & Marcus H., 4th grade: Kade H. & Alexa M., 5th grade: Paige P., 6th grade: Isabella S. & Madison R.
Our 2nd graders along with their 6th grade buddies are proud to have brought Crayola ColorCycle to St. Mary's this year! They have collected 1,688 markers; that is almost 30 pounds of markers! Please test those markers before the school year is done - there will be one more shipment at the end of the school year! This is an amazing program devised to repurpose used markers rather than sending them to landfills!
The 8th graders did a great job leading our May Crowning prayer service today; their leadership skills really shined! Following they visited Koda and The Brooks to put a smile some residents' faces. Thank you to our families who honored Mary with beautiful flowers...
Our 1st graders sure were excited to make their bears today, after finishing their bear unit! Thanks to all the parents, grandparents and friends who helped make the day extra special by taking time out of your busy schedules to sew with them!
Join our 7-8th grade students on their Service Night: Tuesday, May 14, from 6-7 pm in the SMS cafeteria to help with these projects. All St. Mary's Families and guests are welcome. Any 6-8th graders will get power hours for participating.
Congratulations to our Shining Knights this week: 3rd grader Logan and 4th grader Sophia. Both are recognized for their kindness and excellence in the classroom.
We are so happy to be one of the sponsors for “From the Heart” this year to benefit our very own Mrs. Bastyr and 3 other courageous cancer fighters! And we were completely honored to have our 4th grade students (who miss Mrs. Bastyr greatly) kick off the event by singing the National Anthem. They did an outstanding job! It was so great to see so many students, staff, alumni, and families support this great cause. No one fights alone!
The 4th & 5th graders went to the musical “The Most Magnificent Thing” at Stages Theatre in Hopkins today. The musical was based on the book about a girl who learns that making mistakes and failing is okay if you just keep trying. The musical explores the rewards of perseverance and creativity! Good life lessons!
Thank you to Junior Achievement volunteers Jeff and Phil for spending time with our 8th grade "Future Success" Class today. We certainly appreciate the volunteers who come to speak on JA's Finance Park Program to provide our students with knowledge around income, budget, debit, credit, savings, investing, and risk management!
