Congratulations 6th grader Preslee and 7th grader Haley for being this week's Shining Knights. These students are recognized for their positive attitude and always working hard!
Several students were recognized by the Owatonna Court of Catholic Daughters of America after Mass on Wednesday. Every year Catholic Daughters hold an education contest for 4-8th graders at a local and state level. Students could choose between four categories (Art, Computer Art, Essay and Poem) to demonstrate either of the Catholic Daughter’s chosen themes. Congratulations to all the 1st, 2nd, and Honorable Mention winners.
Our 7-8th grade Personal Fitness ended their weeks at Just About You with Jennifer Fisher, with some athletic strength training! We thank Jennifer for volunteering many hours to introduce our students to some of her many different fitness options! We've had a blast!
Our 5th graders have been working on engineering projects by using the Design process. Students were assigned specific tasks to accomplish with constraints they needed to work around. The students also incorporated littleBit modules into their engineering projects, creating an authentic experience in using engineering to make work more efficient. Students designed a conveyor-belt pet food machine, energy saving shower timer, an electric password saver, motorized school supply pulley system, and so many other creative projects.
Congratulations to 7th grader Jose and 8th grader Kaitlyn for being recognized as this week's Shining Knights. Both of these students can light up any room!
Our 7-8th grade students put on a Mardi Gras Marketplace for their Lenten Service project today! Our other students could purchase food items or play games. Items varied in cost from $.50-$2.00. The 7/8th graders worked hard planning, promoting, producing and selling their items. This year the 7/8th grade students chose the proceeds to benefit our very own 4th grade teacher Mrs. Bastyr who is bravely battling Pancreatic Cancer. She has touched all of our student's lives, and we are glad to be able to support her in her journey.
Congratulations Jack! We are proud to announce this 8th grade student is a semifinalist, eligible to compete in the 2019 National Geographic GeoBee Minnesota State Competition. The contest will be held at on Friday, March 29, 2019.
Congratulations to our Shining Knights this week: 5th grader Noelle Kubicek and 7th grader Grant Lower. Both of these kind students are great role models at SMS!
