1/28 - The boys A and B Teams played games vs Janesville Waldorf Pemberton in our 2nd Annual Night to Fight Cancer, with all the proceeds going to the From the Heart Foundation. In the B game the boys came out on fire and raged to a 33-6 halftime lead. They took the foot off of the accelerator and cruised away to a solid 46-22 win.
The A game was a different story. Having played and beaten this JWP Team in the finals of last years Janesville Tourney we new we were in for a barn burner. The lads played their worst game of the season. Lay ups were missed and we could not knock down a three to save our lives. They managed to take a 21-18 lead into the half. Unfortunately that is when the wheels fell off. JWP managed to pull off a 44-39 win giving the Knights our 1st loss of the season.
The following evening the Lady Knights battled the JWP girls in both A and B games. The B Team played hard in a loss and the A Team girls fought all the way to the final whistle. In the end they just did not have the numbers to contend with the public school team from just down the road.
The results may not have ended in a win on paper for the basketball teams, but it was truly a win in their hearts and souls as they managed to raise close to $1500.00 to help those who are fighting this enemy. Great job to all involved, from Liam, Zach J. and Hunter Me. Who used this as their service project and put plenty of time into it, to all the parents who committed their time and energy baking selling and working the concession stand. Again a Big Thank You.
1/30 - Saturday morning bright and early we played our 1st of what would be four games in route to the Championship game of the Janesville Trinity Lutheran Tournament. In order to " make tournament more fair" as requested by the hosts of the tourney, we left our 8th Grade OBA players at home. It started off with a 40-28 win over a very talented Concordia of Roseville Team. The 2nd game was a 45-34 win vs a feisty Trinity of St. Francis squad. The 3rd game was a 42-22 win vs Central Lutheran of St. Paul. In the Championship game we played the same team we started the day with. By this time they had mysteriously added a player who was not on their roster and looked as though he had driven himself to the game. The outcome was not in our favor as the lads played hard but lost by a score of 49-36. Lesson learned. Never leave your horses back in the stable. Overall it was a good but tiring day of basketball with the boys bringing home the 2nd place trophy.
2/1 - The boys traveled to Mankato Loyola in a rematch with a team we beat earlier in the year. The B Team again won 36-22 with the A Team getting caught up in a defensive struggle and hanging on to pull out a 26-24 win to gain the season sweep.
2/5 - The B Team faced a tough St. Dominic's Team from Northfield. They were missing their leading scorer from the 1st game but played like a Team and pulled out a 35-25 victory. The night cap was a rematch with the 6th Grade Team playing FRB Lutheran, a team which they defeated 55-5 the first time around. This time the FRB kids upped their play, but the 6th Grade Knights still pulled off a 36-12 win.
2/8 - Both the girls and boys A Teams traveled to Farmington Christian Life in another rematch from earlier in the year. The girls blew out the home team with a 48-7 win. In the second game the boys also managed a blow out victory by the score of 46-8.
2/12 - The lads traveled to the storied halls of Austin-Pacelli. A team that won its first state high school championship in 1927. Not much has changed in their field house since that first championship. It is a nice historical place to play. The A Team played the first game of the night, came out strong and had a 26-11 lead by half. The final ended in the Knights favor with a score of 46-26. The B Team did not fair as well as they were missing a key starter from their first win over the Shamrocks earlier in the season. They battled hard but lost the game 31-23.
So far the season has been a very good one for all of the boys teams. We appreciate all of the support from the fans and we look forward to seeing you at the Tri County Tournament Championship games on Saturday Feb. 27th for a great day of basketball.
Thank You
