In August, the rigging system was improved and brought up to the twenty-first century industry safety standards. New tracks, chains, and pipes were installed to ensure that all the curtains, lights, and the backdrop will be secure for decades to come. The backdrop was refitted with new pulleys and cables as well, so it can be raised and lowered with ease. Updated energy efficient, multi-colored LED lighting, which was installed over MEA break, will give the audience a much clearer picture of what is happening on the stage during the band and choir concerts, and will allow for more lighting options and mood setting during the school plays. Systems are in place so that further updates, if deemed necessary or prudent, will be able to be installed easily.
These changes come just in time for the Fall 2017 school play. This year, “Sally Cotter and the Censored Stone” by Dean O’Carroll will be performed by a cast and crew of over thirty 6
th-8
th grade students. The play is a parody of Harry Potter. It is about a girl named Sally Cotter, who goes into a deep sleep while reading her favorite wizarding novel. While she is sleeping she learns about the power of friendship, and the excitement of getting truly lost in a really good book. We invite the community to come and experience the stage updates while enjoying the talent of our Jr. High Students. Performances will be at St. Mary’s School in the Jerry Kent Gymnasium on Thursday, November 16 at 12:30 p.m. for the students of St. Mary’s, and on Friday and Saturday, November 17-18 at 7 p.m. for the general public. There is no cost to attend, but a free will offering will be accepted o the behalf of the St. Mary’s School Theater Boosters.
