St. Mary’s Spelling Bee The 4
th-8
th grade spelling bee was held on December 8, 2016. 8
th grader Laura Gebur was declared our champion, spelling the word
eucalyptus correctly to win the title. 8
th grader Grace Smith fought hard and came in second place. Four students tied for 3rd place: 6
th grader Noah Worke, 7
th grader Henry Jessop, and 8
th graders Verity Wray-Raabolle and Zach Lenz.
These were the other contestants vying for the title: 4
th graders Emma Herzog, Tucker Vieths, Matthew Macius, and Cameryn Edel; 5
th graders Alayna Wannarka, Tate Berkley, Bennett Wray-Raabolle, and Vincent Hasara; 6
th graders Laura Deml, Jonathan Clubb, and Christopher Homuth; and 7
th graders Connor Ginskey, Lauren Thamert, and Scott Weckman. Students had to place in the top two in their classroom spelling bee in order to advance to our school competition.
Laura will now advance to the Regional Spelling Bee in Rochester, MN, which will be held on February 7. Congratulations to Laura and to all of our other contestants for sharing their talents with us!
