Donations Fund Technology Budget
Since September of 2006, St. Mary’s School has made a deliberate effort to increase the amount of technology available to our students and teachers. It started with the purchase of one SmartBoard in the fall of 2006, and has continued today with the purchase of 10 more SmartBoards, the relocation of our computer lab, and the acquisition of laptop computers for our teachers.
All of these technological advancements have been made possible through generous donations from alums, parents, and the local business community. The first SmartBoard was purchased with a donation from a 1952 graduate of St. Mary’s School. The next 10 SmartBoards, five laptop computers and 15 LCD projectors were purchased entirely through donations made to the school. In addition, Federated Insurance of Owatonna donated a total of 10 used laptop computers that have been distributed to our teachers.
A St. Mary's family generously donated 29 flat screen monitors for our computer lab and 13 laptops. The laptops will be used by students in the new wilreless environment at St. Mary's.
This year, we have asked parents to consider making a donation to the technology fund before we institute a $50/family technology fee that will fund our technology needs beginning next year.
The school’s technology plan ensures that our technology will be evaluated and updated annually, and that the technology we purchase will be fully implemented into our curriculum. Looking forward, we have identified several priorities for technology needs:
Additional SmartBoards
iPod Touch Technology
Classroom Set of Netbooks
Digital Cameras
These are just a few of the areas we will be addressing. If you would like additional information about our technology needs, please contact Mary Hawkins at 446-2300. Thank you!
